Job Title: Utility Data Technician – Pole Inventory & Joint-Use 

Department: Operations – Electric Utilities 

Reports To: Senior Survey Technician/Project Manager 

Location: Texas 

The Utility Data Technician for Pole Inventory and Joint-Use is responsible for managing, processing, and analyzing utility infrastructure data collected in the field for electric utility programs. This role supports pole inventory, joint-use audits, and distribution system mapping initiatives by transforming field-collected data into accurate datasets used for engineering design, asset management, and utility planning. 


Working closely with field crews and project managers, the Utility Data Analyst reviews incoming data for accuracy, coordinates data collection requirements, and processes information within platforms such as Katapult Pro, ESRI Field Maps, GIS systems, and related software tools. 


This position plays a critical role in ensuring utility infrastructure data is accurate, complete, and delivered in accordance with client standards. 


Key Responsibilities 

Field Data Coordination 

  • Coordinate with field crews responsible for collecting pole inventory and utility infrastructure data.  

  • Develop and distribute field data collection packages and project instructions.  

  • Provide ongoing support to field personnel regarding data collection requirements and standards.  

  • Track project progress and field data submission status. 

Data Processing & Analysis 

  • Process field data within Katapult Pro workflows including pole modeling, attachment identification, and field verification review.  

  • Validate field photos and measurements to ensure pole loading analysis requirements are met. 

Pole Inventory & Joint-Use Analysis 

  • Review pole inventory data to confirm attachment ownership and pole characteristics.  

  • Analyze joint-use attachment data including telecommunications and cable infrastructure.  

  • Ensure collected data meets utility and engineering requirements for pole loading analysis and design. 


Software & Data Management 

  • Manage and process data within industry platforms including:  

  • Katapult Pro  

  • ESRI Field Maps  

  • GIS systems  

  • CAD or mapping software as required  

  • Maintain organized project data repositories and ensure proper version control. 


Quality Assurance 

  • Perform quality checks on incoming field data including photo documentation, GPS data, and asset attributes.  

  • Identify discrepancies or missing data and coordinate corrections with field crews.  

  • Ensure deliverables meet internal QC standards and client specifications.  

Project Coordination 

  • Work closely with Project Managers to ensure project schedules and deliverables are met.  

  • Provide technical support to field crews collecting pole inventory data.  

  • Review incoming field data daily to identify missing attributes, incorrect measurements, or documentation gaps.  

  • Coordinate data corrections and re-collection when necessary. 

Qualifications 

  • 2+ years experience processing utility data, GIS datasets, or pole inventory/joint-use programs. 

  • Experience supporting electric utility infrastructure projects preferred. 

  • Experience working with pole inventory or joint-use datasets highly preferred. 

  • An educational background in Land Surveying, Geomatics, or a related field is preferred. 

  • In-depth knowledge of surveying principles, techniques, and procedures. 

  • Problem solving and organizational skills are necessary. 

  • Strong communication and leadership abilities.
